2024 Call for Proposals
The President and Program Committee of the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society (OVPES) invite proposals that broadly interpret the theme—authenticity—for its annual meeting to be held at the Seasons Lodge in Nashville, Indiana, Thursday through Saturday, September 19-21, 2024. Conference leadership welcomes proposals that make connections between philosophy and education, both related and unrelated to the conference theme. OVPES remains a site for experimental thinking with educational and philosophical ideas in a collegial and friendly environment.
Proposals for individual papers, alternative sessions, and panels or symposia involving multiple speakers on a single topic are welcomed. Proposals should be submitted to Dr. Annie Schultz, Program Chair, at ohiovalleypes@gmail.com on or before May 15, 2024. More information on the conference theme and submission guidelines can be found in the attached full CFP.
Publishing Panel
We’re kicking off our 2024 conference with a special Publishing Panel on Thursday night. Current, incoming, and outgoing editors of some of our field’s top journals will answer questions about how to get published, choosing the right journal for your work, what editors are looking for, what makes their journal unique, and more. The panel will be moderated by Barrett Smith, doctoral student in Educational Studies at University of Cincinnati and practicing Latin teacher at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati Public Schools. Barrett has served as Editorial Assistant for the journal Democracy & Education for three years. Our panelists include:

Reading Group
This year, leading up to the conference, we’re hosting a reading group for Phil Smith Lecturer Michael Lynch’s book Know-It-All Society. If you’re interested in reading this book in community and meeting up to talk about it at the conference, contact Derek Gottlieb at derek.gottlieb@unco.edu.

Room Rate $129.00 (1-4 person occupancy) per night good until August 22nd, 2022.
Each OVPES attendee should call the hotel directly to arrange a room reservation. Reservations must be guaranteed by the first night’s room rate with a credit card. Reservations will continue to be accepted after the cut-off date based on availability. Attendees must identify themselves as attending the OVPES meeting to receive the $129 rate. Cancellations 48 hours prior to the arrival date is required for a refund.
